The Geraldine community have an aspirational goal to create something unique—a visitor experience that perfectly blends culture and nature.
Led by the local community, Geraldine has created something unique—an authentic experience sharing our takiwā with all who journey (haerenga) through, however short or long.
The trail showcases natural flowing waters and sparkling sunlight, viewed through native forests rich in echoing bird song, while enjoying vistas of inspiring artwork and stories of local history.
The completion of the trail routes represents the fulfilment of a long dreamed, much debated and well managed project, a testament to what a whole community can achieve when engaged.
Guiding Principles
Pivotal for the success of our sculpture trails is inclusivity – that they can be enjoyed by all.
• Free
• Accessible to all
• Unique to NZ
Sustainability
Embedded in the project ethos is the procurement of locally sourced plants, materials, labour, and other resources as much as is practically possible.
Environment
Intrinsic to the project is the commitment to protect and preserve Geraldine’s natural environment, including the iconic bat population and dark skies, taking steps to address the effects of lighting and other factors.
