As wintry conditions continue for you, I am out of the country enjoying time with my son, Oliver. To keep you f rom being left without a word from me, here’s something I prepared in advance of my trip.
You may recall that last month, I thought we should start a conversation about sculptures. So, continuing with that topic, let’s explore how art affects us, what emotions come to the surface, and [have a] discussion around a piece of sculpture and what it’s all about.
Here is the result of my initial internet search: “Studies have shown that engaging with art can stimulate areas of the brain associated with emotion, memory, and cognition, leading to heightened levels of creativity, introspection, and introspective thinking.” (eclecticgallery.co.uk; 06.04.24) The interesting thing about that is that it applies to everyone regardless of age.
As we work towards bringing high-quality art to the Geraldine Sculpture Trail, the selection process begins with the Art Advisory Group. They collectively make a recommendation to the Governance Team, which, along with the landscape architect, makes the final decisions. This robust process ensures a good outcome.
The following are more images for you. Once again, they are not necessarily what we are focusing on; they are just random pieces for you to engage with and reflect on. I will be home in mid- August in time for the next column. Let’s catch up then. Oh, and please, if you see motorbikes on the trail, call 105; this is a preventative measure for public safety.
Thank you. ROSIE
