At the end of last year I shared with you that we are poised to place art on the trail, this will be occurring in the coming months, there is still some hurdles to jump which we are attending to one by one.
As progress is slow over the holiday’s we felt it relevant to recap on the progress this community project has achieved in the time it has been going. You are able to follow this in more details on our web page geraldinesculpturetrail.nz but here is an overview.
We are into our 6th year from the time a local business man had the idea of how to attract people into our town by marrying the exceptionally beautiful natural landscape with the placement of as exceptional pieces of sculpture to excite and delight viewers. 2019 Janene Adams from geraldine.nz was instrumental in writing the project plan & gaining the initial funding from Venture Timaru, the project was born.
The engagement of landscape architects Glasson & Huxtable formulated the masterplan, then bringing together the Governance, Operations and Art Advisory teams followed. All voluntary people from within this community whose outstanding support would not have seen the progress to date.
The physical construction of; three trails, the Waihi River Trail, the Rhododendron Dell Trail and the Domain Trail, the Viewing Platform and most recently the Boardwalk which is in its final stages. Signage and the upgrade of the Wilson St footbridge complete the construction list.
It is now time for the art to shine, with the confidential donations from local people and organisations we have begun to build funds. The type of art to make traffic stop has to be significant, and that type of art is not cheap. We are looking to funders from across Aotearoa and closer to home to bring these art works to the trails.
As always, I am happy to hear from you anytime,
Rosie.
